Firist clash with Tottenham Hotspur in the European Cup

Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur have never met in the European Cup before. They previously came face to face in the quarterfinals of the 1984/85 UEFA Cup, which Real Madrid won. 

The first leg took place on 6 March 1985 at White Hart Lane. Real Madrid were then coached by Amancio. Striker Emilio Butragueño scored the victory goal on the 24-minute mark. The return leg at the Bernabeu ended in a 0-0 draw and the Whites went through to the next round and eventually won the title by defeating Inter Milan (2-0 comeback at the Bernabeu) and Videoton (3-0 in Hungary; 0-1 in Madrid) in the semis and the final, respectively.
